1.Foundation
Compacted Gravel Base: Place and uniformly compact the gravel base (0- ¾â crushed stone). Dense-graded aggregate base should be compacted using a vibratory plate compactor or hand tamper. The gravel base should extend beyond the Aspen Stone a min of 6â. For residential use a 4 in. thick base is recommended. The top of the leveling pad should be at least 2â below grade.
Concrete Base or Concrete Pavers: Place Aspen Stone directly on a concrete base or concrete pavers. Make sure to fill the bottom of the fire pit with a layer of sand (3â minimum) to ensure proper drainage.
Installing First Layer of Block
Use a center stake and lay out the Aspen Stone⢠in a 14â radius from center stake to the back of the block. A circle with roughly a 28â inside diameter will require 11 Aspen Stone⢠blocks. There will be small gaps towards the back end of the block for ventilation purposes. Slight adjustment to the circle of blocks may be required for proper alignment.
2.Building Additional Courses of Block
Make sure the first layer of block is perfectly leveled before building additional courses. Using concrete approved adhesive glue the second row of blocks to the first row. It is important to stagger the joints on every course. The center of each stone in one layer should be above the intersection of the stones below. There are enough stones to build 5 layers of block which would make the fire pit roughly 20â tall. **For packaging, five extra Aspen Stone block are provided.

3.Installation of The Fire Bowl
Once the fire pit is at the desired height, insert the fire bowl and the log support grill. Make sure to attach the ash guard to the base of the fire bowl. We recommend not gluing the fire bowl to the concrete block. Next place the spark screen on the fire bowl and attach the handle. A poker stick is included to remove or place the spark screen when the fire pit is in use. The spark screen handle becomes extremely hot when the fire pit is in use.
Safety Tips:
-The fire pit is for outdoor use only.
-Make sure to assemble the fire pit a minimum distance from surrounding structures and make sure nothing is directly above the fire pit that is a potential fire and/or injury hazard.
-Before beginning installation, please contact your municipality to obtain information for fire pit installation regulations. It is very important to check local codes!!
